This morning Dirty Projectors announced the release of a 7-inch, Ascending Melody, through the Domino web store. Those who prefer A) Not paying, B) Digital music, and C) Instant gratification can opt instead for a free download, with the surrender of an email address.
In either vinyl or digital format, there are two songs here, the title track and one called “Emblem Of The World.” Both come from the sessions for Bitte Orca, which many critics, myself included, placed high on the 2009 release pile. I believe there’s resonance between Bitte Orca and some of my top jazz albums of last year, by the likes of Steve Lehman, Vijay Iyer and Darcy James Argue. Don’t you? Discuss.
Thanks for the kind words, Zach, and for checking in.

I do think there is a connection. Each of these bands put forth music that is highly orginal in it's execution. They take forms that are recongnizable to most ears, and make them their own. It's cliche, but damn it, it gets me every time.
I really enjoy your blog by the way... keep it coming.
