I agree that there is a healthy audience for jazz and many options for those interested. I'm currently in Philadelphia, where Ars Nova Workshop and Bowerbird have both been bringing excellent events and performances to the city. In the past few months I've been lucky to see Bill Dixon + The Exploding Star Orchestra, Corsano-Yeh-Wooley, Rempis-Rosaly, John Butcher, Daniel Levin Trio, Third Man Trio, and the list goes in.

Earlier this year, I was in living in Columbia, SC which, as surprising as it may be, had a healthy selection of interesting groups groove through town: Vandermark + Ab Baars Trio, Vox Arcana, Josh Berman's Old Idea, and quite a few others recently.

Any chance there's a link floating around for that Bennink interview? Sounds interesting.
